MISSION AND VALUES

At Punkinbutt, we believe in a loving, faithful, and creative God. We believe God has given us the gift of life and, with it, the responsibility of being stewards of this beautiful world in which we live. We are stewards of the earth and of the lives we live on it. As caretakers of the earth, we are called to make wise use of the resources given us in creation. As stewards of our own lives, we are called to use our time, talents, and personal resources wisely and responsibly. We believe the use of cloth diapers, all-natural products, and products made from recycled materials is wise and responsible stewardship of the earth and of our lives. We believe that using all-natural and recycled products teaches our children habits of good stewardship as well.

We believe we are created in the image of God and, as such, are capable of great love, great faithfulness, and great creativity. We believe that as we use the gifts and resources we have been given, we will discover more and more of God’s nature and God’s design. As we care for and love our children, we discover God’s deep and fierce love for us. As we women breastfeed our children, we discover God’s desire and ability to feed and nurture us. As we men and women use our creative abilities, we discover God’s creativity and beauty as we sew and sing, as we write and weave, as we build and bake. And we give glory to God in all these wonderful, human endeavors.

And yet, though created in God’s image, we recognize that we are not a perfect reflection of the Divine. We are capable of great love, faithfulness and creativity; yet we are also capable of great failures to love, of deep faithlessness, and of widespread destruction of both relationships and resources. While we strive to be wise, responsible stewards of our earth and our lives, we often fail to care for our world, our bodies and our families. And when we fail in these pursuits, we discover the consequences of our actions. We experience broken relationships, polluted air and water, overcrowded landfills, diseases, loneliness, depression. We discover what it means to be far from God and God’s holy design.

The sin of humanity is so deep and so wide that we deserve both earthly and eternal separation from God. Yet God does not leave us alone in our failure, in our sin. God’s love for us is so strong and so faithful that he became flesh to live and dwell among us, to show us how to live our lives, to redeem us from the brokenness of our sin. God became human in Jesus Christ and reconciled us - and all of creation - to himself. Rather than condemn us to eternal separation from God, Jesus Christ gave himself up on the cross and paid the penalty of our sin on the cross. In his death, he set us free from our sins. In his death, he also conquered death and rose again. Because of his resurrection, we need not fear death. Indeed, we need fear neither life nor death, because in both life and death we are God’s and we are with God. Jesus Christ promises life abundantly on this earth and life eternally after our earthly death to all who follow him and believe in him. And he has given us the companionship and the power of the Holy Spirit to renew us and strengthen us each day, that we might follow Christ and be reconciled to God.

Knowing that we are created, redeemed, and sustained by a God who loves us so passionately, we desire to live our lives with gratitude and with joy. We desire that our lives be marked with grateful and joyful stewardship. We hope and pray that as you diaper, clothe, feed, and love your little ones, you will experience God’s great love for you and your children. And we pray that in all we do, say, and sell here at Punkinbutt we bring glory and honor and praise to our God.
